Night & Day

The sun yawned and stretched its rays

Across the undulating land

Waving goodbye to the sleepless night

Without even offering a hand

But one day the moon would take revenge

And bring havoc to this merry soul

He’d undermine this popular lad

He’d show him not to be so glad

With no one else to get in his way

The sun performed his duties of the day

He frowned when rain began to fall

And hid when clouds began to play

The moon decided what must be said, must be

So, he went to the highest authority

Pleading hard and long for more time

To cover blankets of dark upon the earth

He told them of people

How they always longed for bed

But the sun put them under a spell

For when he came out, they were happy

Or so he said

The authorities talked long and hard

Determined to amend

For they did not like enmity

But, in the end, they had to send

For the god of the ruling planets

He knew right from wrong

His power was so immense

He’d solve the problem

It wouldn’t take long

At last the moon was called forward

To receive the final verdict

He wasn’t sure he liked what he heard

But he’d sit and hear it out

According to them he’d have to wait

Until a later date

When it would all be dark

And light would be a thing of the past

They couldn’t specify

And certainly didn’t want to terrify

But this would all come to pass

When sun and moon met on yon hill

The moon accepted all he heard

And would no longer moan

He’d promised to put up with the sun

For he’d get his way and so couldn’t groan

But now the moon had to get on his way

Or else he would be late

For the duties he had to perform

For night had to take over from day
