“You can’t be the wind”, the wind said. “We’re two very different things.”
“That’s not true ,” the boy said. “I learned the alchemist’s secrets in my travels. I have inside me the winds, the deserts, the oceans, the stars, and everything created in the universe. We were all made by the same hand, and we have the same soul. I want to be like you, able to reach every corner of the world, cross the seas, blow away the sands that cover my treasure, and carry the voice of the woman I love.”
Paulo Coehlo: The Alchemist (set in Tarifa and Tangiers!)
The writer speaks of comets and stars,
mirages, winds and deserts.
Away from leaden northern skies,
I have never seen sky so blue
or light so clear
as now, when I realise
that the Author speaks of
me.
To love His universe
brings harmony, purpose
and 20/20 vision.
I can't explain it. I read this and burst into tears. Oh, yes, the poem is among your creative best, for me... perhaps, it's the way you place words right where they belong, suitable for gulping, though, with you, I prefer to sip, to savor. I'm babbling, mainly because I'm still under the spell of this one. I hear goosebumps subside eventually... for now, they are a lovely reminder that you are the remedy for whatever ails me. I love this piece! Kalmer katy xoxoxox
This poem is you, Kate! The bubbly personality, the passion and love for others and the compassion! Beautiful, pleasurable read with a wonderful message!
Just luv Pacific's comments! :)) Yes, quite right; I am perhaps to be pitied if I am the source of my own illumination, and this really makes me laugh! I had never thought of that, being so ignorant about all poets, let alone neo romantic ones! I wondered about the perception of being self-congratulatory, too, but in the end decided that the "correct" interpretation is the notion of revelatory awakening, rather than the resultant effect. And the 20/20 bit was to specify the idea as being actual vision and understanding, rather than the vision of the landscape of the mind's eye. My apologies for those of you who don't need to know any of this, but, as you know, I can never resist a response - or a challenge... Andy Turner, where are you?! LOL Kate xx :))
as well as being the source of you own illumination you are also a source of inspiration to all who read you ... your 20/20 vision is a secret to no one ...

Just finished reading his latest book "Zahir", he has a midas touch...
The Alchemist is one of those rare books proving again (&again) that writing can be such a cathartic art! I like the idea of vision connotation, but denotation of 20/20 takes that added punch from it. The last couplet makes me wonder is it self pitifying or self congratulatory, a paradox used by famous neo romantic poets. Everything is in us, the elements that make(made) the stars, comets and dust...Very clear and crisp, Kate. I like your style, but more than that I like the voice behind your poetry.
Oh Kate, this is SOoo Beautiful!:) and So TRue! WE are a part of eachother in this wide Universe before Us! As Our pen forseeks the answers to it all or some of what can be important. This a keeper! Thank you 4 sharing openly Katie-Enjoy your day ! ~Plant a seed and watch them Growww~ and... the will you knowww... WArm HuGs2U-Lady,Sheee *Sheila
Your words are always a pleasure to read Kate. May you and your path be forever illuminated. It is a wonderful experience. Thank you for this incredible write.
Sweet Kate as usual this poem perulates with your bubbly and open minded passionate look at the world and I hope you never change. You do remind me a lot of myself when I was young except I could not speak as openly or openly write poetry in my youth.
In the Whirlwind is a poetic storm that frees history from the cages of corruption and puts it in the hands of everyday people. Words are weaved into a new fashion statement that has nothing to do with runways but everything to do with projects!
Welcome!
The poems in this beautifully bound book are a result of over twenty years of observations. Observations of the world around us and on the telecommunications network. All of the hate, love, heroism, disasters, and those who help.
