... Actually an old write from January 2007 which I was disappointed to find deleted from my backlist (think I must previously have used a copyrighted photo on it! Oops!) Am currently eagerly awaiting the new poet-y film, Bright Star, the purported "true " story of the passionate love affair between John Keats and Fanny Brawne. In the meantime, here's Dylan Thomas and Caitlin back again! :)) xx

Poem Artwork

THEIR MYTH, MY MAN

“Call me Cait” is how it started,
the night you wooed me with sparks
rising from rich seams of your eyes,
your face crackling behind veils of exhaled smoke.

Augustus before you had painted me
naked, but your voice laid me bare,
your words capturing my profile,
the blush of my soul.

Wild-child lovers we were,
caught in your tousled ringlets of curls
and tossed in my gurgling laughter.

Rimbaud of Cwmdonkin Drive,
you, their tut-inducing enfant terrible,
were blessed from birth and easy
was the life we made,
like fertile soil and harvest.

And golden-cropped our years,
barley fields fruiting bairns, born
of the astronomical light in your eyes
and earth-scented skin of your touch.

But was it misery, mirth or mayhem that
snuffed your candle so cruelly quick,
doused with drink on a New York binge?

I see you now, face the pallor of silk
framing your Pan-like features,
your lustrous hair curling still,
lips wet with words as yet unspoken,
wry, upturned corners of your mouth
speaking aloud:

“My darling Cait; everything for you!”

The world may have the mystery
of your myth
for you gave only me the substance
of your man.

I like poems on old poets, in particular explorations of their personal lives or our fantastic desires for them. Guess it's the nerd in me or my own wish to ride another poet wildly and be immortalized in poetry as the alluring muse. LOL. Enjoyed this one

Kate - Love this poem of one of my favorite and most influential poets who died trying to live the myth the world made of him. I've read of his life and his marriage to Cait, who lived his love and pain. I always think of his poem "The Poet" who " for his breast of whistles/ God has mercy on." - David

You always weave such visuals into your works I love the way you are so descriptive. I feel like I can smell the coffee. Oh, that's because I am making coffee......Duh
Georg is right about Bob, "Everybody must get stoned."

Kate,
I was not privy to this the first time, for I was not on the den then. But now I am very happy to have read such a wonderful piece of poetry.
You are simply amazing, my friend, amazing!

This ROCKS, Kate! The layers of motion in this poem paint a graphic design of life through time. The rhythm of your words tumble like stones in a stream, slowly moving through the ages being washed smooth by the carress of the passing waters. What a love story you have penned. Kudos, Kate!
Take care,
Sherry

Anything with "DYLAN" in it speaks to me as I'm a Bobby Zimmerman fan. If this is about ait...Cait and Bobby I'm more interested than before. You write in a manner whereas emotions stand on end as does the hairs it provokes. Passion and Dylan always are hand in hand as is Cait and Dylan. Wow! What a love story!

My best!

Marvelous writing, Kate. Line for line. How sad that Dylan's light was snuffed out so early. But at least you captured him for us:

I see you now, face the pallor of silk
framing your Pan-like features,
your lustrous hair curling still,
lips wet with words as yet unspoken,
wry, upturned corners of your mouth
speaking aloud:

-gene.

Ah, I love this, Kate. Jeez, there are so many great lines in this is is almost impossible to single on out. Hehehe, but I did and it is this, "but your voice laid me bare," that just grabbed me and gave me the willies, it was so "personal," and at the same time so nonchalant. Of course the last four lines says it all. The world may have thought they owned you, but no one had you like me, she is saying to the world. Oh, I just selected "Bright Star" on Netflick, so I will be in among the first when it goes on video.
