Hullo there! Ron! You're so right about it being a very catchy "crazy" tune for when it first came over the wires, everybody was singing it with faked tragic affectation; even children and teenagers (me included) mouthed the title and just jabberwocked the rest in badly imitated-Spanish. Those were the days... Thanks a lot for the comment and for the kudos. The Spanish is so right for the sentiments expressed, but, I must admit, I had difficulty finding the right equivalents in English. I have translated a good deal from Carlos Bousono and Nicanor Parra, but this little lyrical piece gave me much to choose from and worry about. Every good wish.
I recall Bésame Mucho from my childhood and seem to remember that it was mixed Spanish refrain and English verses. The song's haunting melody and the power of Spanish made it very special and wonderful to listen to.
