The World of Words

Poem Artwork

 Da Vinci journal

on my night stand
leather bound friend
gorged with living.

Pen-sketched pictures
carved-out words
stabbed clean through,
mopped up later, kindly.

Embossed, planted, paved,
burnished, brandished, milked,
flung, crushed to chest, held there tightly
sobbed, cackled, lectured
cooked and served,
loudly-sung, jewelry-hung
lit with fragrance, flame.

The weight too heavy —
too essential not to carry.

A journey like none other,
story of each other,

…..to be continued.

Makes me sad I never kept one. I can see from the agony and ecstasy that you engaged in a lot of self improvement through the process of keeping your journal.

And I love the outstanding sketch on your cover. My sister-in-law was a horse woman and was Miss Wisconsin Rodeo for two years with an option to compete in Las Vegas for national honors, but didn't go because of the cost.

A graduate student I knew at West Virginia University wrote me that she fell in love with a visiting artist from Argentina, married him, and got her wish, to ride naked on horse back on a deserted South American beach.

However, he believed in machismo, so she left him and came back home.

Diana likes to highlight certain remarkable verses in other poets' poems, she has a few of her own in this memorable poem. "Embossed, planted, paved, burnished, brandished, milked, flung, crushed to chest, held there tightly." I see a "to be continued", so please keep them coming.

Having spent a good deal of time with the subject of your poem (unfortunately, without the grace of a leather-bound volume), I can still attest to the impact such a realm of history could have on you... as it did on me. The passion of your words, the depth in which your prose takes us is indeed another credit to your ability to use minimal language to fully immerse the reader into whatever world you create. Such a talent you have. Such a gift for us all to partake of. Thank you, Diana—another keeper to return to often.

Visions of A Skylark Dressed in Black by Aberjhani

“The woman or man who is a poet, or fiction writer, or playwright, or all of these, is engaged constantly in a jazz ballet of vocabularies, passions, genders, histories, perspectives, death, love, and life. The music of revelation announces itself to
