What have we done??? For my beloved friend Fauzia-sister of my soul. And for RAWA, the most courageous group of women I've ever known.

Poem Artwork

She sits in the dusty rubble

looking into her yesterdays

dark eyes lost..

in a memory of cherries in the Spring

So sweet, so filled with life,

each ruby orb bursting on her tongue,

filling her young mouth with the taste of joy.

Tugging her burq tightly around her emaciated body,

she gazes at the graveyard of her history

Hearing the screams of her unquiet dead

echoing around her

Her homeland has been raped...

violated...

by brutal uncaring minds,

that spread the soil wide in furrows of hate

while silver birds of prey

swoop,  screaming death

from cerulean skies

Her mind cannot encompass all that she sees..

torn limbs dangle,

like obscene ornaments

hanging  from twisted branches,

in  dark parody...

of cherries,,

in the Spring

well done, it is hard to write of such a sad event and grace it with beauty as you have even so. Deep and emotionally motivating.

this is a fantastic piece you have written. it delivers its story in the reader's mind vividly. i felt drawn into the subject's desolate world, i felt her sadness and i relived her memories.

a success!
