Poem Artwork

We walk through golden slivers of sunlight
that pierce the canopy of this
enchanted ancient forest
Onward through an endless
maze of giant Sequoias

We traverse the river
navigating exposed boulders
a fallen tree our final bridge
Ascending the steep lush bank I warn you
of the nettle, ivy and poison oak

Too late

Don’t touch your face

Too late

We reach our cozy cabin where we sip
freshly brewed coffee on the deck
Add a shot of Kahlua
to help ease your sting
The sound of crisp clear flowing water
overtakes us as we slip
into a moment of silence
inhaling the fresh rich scent of life

Suddenly I hear your laughter
Though its hard to tell
if its really coming from you
for your face now
seems expressionless

You exclaim that your
swollen lips and puffy eyes
resemble the macabre mask worn
by the victim of a Mexican plastic surgeon

A bad collagen job at best

Angelina Jolie eat your heart out

How maybe God finally took notice
and made good on your parents promise
that for all the weird
funny faces you’ve made
he would make it stay that way

And how, when we get back home,
you’ll have no problem joining
the Beverly Hills Senior Widows Club

We laugh until our stomachs hurt

Another Kahlua-Coffee
I rummage through my pack
And find the lotion

It's not too late

Reminds me of the time I cleaned all the weeds out of the wild roses at the entrance to the Park. The thorns tore my forearms up, but not as much as the poison ivy that entered the scratches.

Ron

Fortunately, unlike my twin brother, I healed quickly without swelling. As a kid I used to pick the stuff to scare my fellow Boy Scouts with.

Been there/done that...as a kid I crossed a fence where poison oak was growing...yeah I still remember to this day how that felt and what that stuff looks like...not going there again, not if I can help it...great write, brought back some real itchy memories...

Sounds like a great getaway... er, except for that one, teensy, tiny, little glitch.

This is a lovely tribute to your fair lady, Edwin. The love shines through loud and clear -- she's a very lucky lady, indeed!
My very warmest regards,

Yes Richard it is yours truly in the Fedora and I could kill Edwin for posting a photograph of me looking so puffy and swollen after my entanglement with poison oak. ;-) lol

If it's going to happen to anyone, it will happen to me. I've a knack for getting into scrapes and this was no exception. Still, it was a romantic getaway and I had many experiences I'll never forget.

Ed, my Cuddlechops, this is a really cute write and I chuckled as I read it. What a great way to remember our special moments. We did so much there and I'll have to write another poem to cover some of the other more memorable moments together. Gotta say...ALL our moments are special.

Is that Chanti in that Fedora?

Edwin ...

The first line is to die for. Just excellent. A tactile and entertaining write filled with the smells of the great outdoors.

Poison Oak is nothing to mess with. I'm sure that you'll be alright - it's just a miserable experience.

Real time write about such a soft moment of time and caring, laughter and joy, you captured the natural give and take of romance even with the poison oak your moments shared seem special and a memory that will be looked back on with a smile of fondness. Well done Edwin.
