Red Squirrel friend or Foe?

Poem Artwork

You will see I have a picture of a breakfast visitor. It struck me that we all love to see the red squirrel but it is also vermin and vicious if you go near. Isn't that like life too?

We have a visitor at breakfast!

He runs along the trees

His fur is warm, inviting

But his temper does not please

He bites if you go too near

He's vermin that's a fact

But why is beauty always

worn without much tact?

In life I see much beauty

For eyes to fix a stare

But beauty is elusive

and dies with too much wear.

A tail of fur to balance

To curl up warm at night

small claws to peel the fodder

All done right out of sight

yet still I think I'll feed him

acrobatics free to see

and I guess I'd be so lonely

If he gave up pleasing me
