Just remembering times from my youth when love was life and life was love...

Poem Artwork

Harbor Front Goodbye

I feel the cold wind blowing off the harbor

As I pull up my tough guy collar, play my part

Even though you just wiped your misty eyes

Leaving teardrops on the coat sleeve of my heart

Look at the water,

the passing ships,

even  the seagulls in the sky

Anywhere else around

but your retreating back

or I know I’ll start to cry

The clouds cover up the lover’s harvest moon

As if they have heard her words and sympathize

No they’ll not let the stars add insult to injury

And even the wind settles down to breezy sighs

A foghorn wails

A bell buoy replies

Everything seems the same

I steal a glance

At her retreating back

I guess I lost love’s game

Clutched in my hand I feel a diamond promise

Almost breaking skin I hold so tight

Then I toss that ring, that cheating thing

And lay to rest the love I lost that night

"...leaving teardrops on the coat sleeve of my heart..." a poem that pictures every old sailor's last descending gangway.
Saying goodby to the last harbor is like receiving a Dear John letter.
Very good!!!

Nicely done in expressing ones feelings.

(((Fee))),

Poignantly penned, one feels the author wants to be anywhere but standing at the harbor, telling his loved one goodbye: the readers feel his pain. Excellent.

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Some wonderful images and lines in this one, Pops. Cuts a very real dash across the mind and heart. Sharp as a razor. This fascinates me as I am personally still in the rosy glow of associating my life by the sea with all things warm and wonderful of body, mind and spirit. I love the way you bring your lifelong experience to show us both the heat and the cold, the death and the life, that the heart of the ocean can conceal and reveal. Your life experience seems so steeped with her moods as your backdrop. Very much like the questions you leave us with at the end of this one. I long to know more... Perhaps you can elaborate as you sail me slowly back to Dorset!! :)) And thanks for the lift! Love homesiK Kate xx
