 When Your Memories Visit

Now and then, your memory stops by for a visit

Bringing cherished images, that we once made

Once in a while, I think I even hear your laughter

Ain’t it funny how those memories never fade

For a little while, I almost made myself believe it

That I’d be much happier, without you in my life

I once had your love, now I only have its shadow

and the pain of losing you, still cuts like a knife

My calendar says Spring is just around the corner

Trees will blossom, the birds will come back home

New life and our old love you can always count on

I hope that now then you let your memories roam

Tonight again, as I wander through our memories

By your side is where I wish that I could truly be

Please know in your heart, that I will not forget you

Even though, I know, you asked to be set you free…

My heart aches for you as I read these well written but sad words. I wish you peace, my friend.

This has universal appeal, Felix. I felt the journey of the love and lost and longing. You brought sincerity along with serenity into the foreground of daily life readers can relate to in personal ways. Pat Conroy’s book Prince of Tides carried a single sentance from the page into my memory, and that is a description that I find fits your writing of your ‘When Your Memories Visit,’ : = “I rolled that thought around in my mind like a lozenge.” Power of the pen. I find that you did this with many of your lines here, starting with the first line, and “I hope that now then you let your memories roam” and “Tonight again, as I wander through our memories” — that was rolling the lozenge, Felix. Keep the rolling, it is good medicine. ~~ djl

Glad to read you again, Fee. But this is a sorrowful write. I sense much longing.

In the early morning hour, I dreamed my ex-wife who left me 40 years ago, came back to live with me and my current partner. I haven't thought of her in years. I even imagined what she looks like. There are no pictures anywhere. A strange coincidence with your poem.
