Towards the Ending
By: Felix L. Perry
I look and the mirror tells me no lies
Closer to my end then my beginning
I can truly say I have nothing to regret
Nor is there anything I wouldn’t do over
For my past shaped my what is today
I smile, even knowing as I say this that
That time is quickly running out for me
So too, is this tired old body of mine…
Still…
I am thankful for living a full rich life
No silver spoon ever graced my mouth
Nor did any inheritance fill my coffers
What I got I earned and paid for myself
I made mistakes along the way as well
A man would be a hypocrite to deny his sins
All I can be is truly sorry for any hurts I caused
With time I learned and moved on…
Sometimes…
I imagine a piper playing on a hillside
His mournful dirge of Amazing Grace
Fitting to my demise when it arrives
Words by someone who really knew me
The sun sinking down to kiss the horizon
As hands are held and arms embrace
So smile for the times we once shared
Then send my name off, on the wind…
My End

You are the stuff of legends. You may have lived within meager means, but your legacy will grow and many more people will know, than will ever believe.
