This is not about me but I heard an old George Jones song on the radio today...yes called, "He stopped loving her today..."and that was the inspiration for this poem.

Funeral Promise
By: Felix L. Perry

Last night I dreamt of a funeral
Solemn shades of black and white
Ebon skies were dark and dreary
Almost as if approaching night

Just a simple crematorium urn
Was all it took to hold his soul
No need a priest for benediction
As they placed him in that hole

A cousin sang his last request
“He stopped loving her today.”
What they had, had tempted fate
But he had loved her anyway

When thunder boomed a warning
The heavens opened up with rain
Family cut short their last goodbyes
To one they’d never see again

But in the lane beside an old Camaro
Stood the true widow of his heart
She dropped a tear stained red rose
Whispered: “We’ll never be apart…”

Felix, this is heart rendering my dear friend -- I viewed the solemn rites and felt the sorrow through the black ink of an emotional pen -- I bid you love and peace -- Jon Michael

To me, a funeral is a weding. Everyone comes to the weding feast
to bid the person goodby as his life and journey is now complete and
he is now wed to his savior, his creator. He is returned from whence he came and he was tested and found worthy to live in the home of his father forever. The Kingdom of God is a beautiful garden filled with many beautiful flowers, some big, some little, and The
streets are paved with gold and as earth was once beautiful so is the Kingdom of God. 'lil flower

A dark, romantic setting... a funeral, a strong bond, rain and thunder, a sad song and a rose: perfect ingredients for an autumn evening.

That old George Jones song (the most requested country song of all time and his biggest hit) really did justice to its subject matter, but no more so than this "FUNERAL PROMISE."

Nicely done, Fee. Thanks Dick

Inspired indeed! An extraordinary write, Fee. The mood captured perfectly and the artwork is a wonderful compliment, as well. But your words and concluding stanza bring it all home. Love this one; it's going into my library. ~Elizabeth
