 Fireflies and Humming Birds

By: Fee

Sometimes I think of you and in the summer sun

A world so bright and loving I never got to share

I think of your pretty humming bird and laughter

Grand-kids splashing in your pool without a care

I think of summer nights around a cozy campfire

In a cabin on a lake with children’s drowsy eyes

Of fishing on a big old lake, just for bragging rights

I think of holding hands, silent walks and fireflies

I know the reality and I know why it could not be

I dream and when I dream of you, it’s no surprize

That even still, so very far away, across a continent

I dream of you, of humming birds and fireflies…

Such a bittersweet expression of love in dreams.

You have expressed well the immense longing for someone in this poem. I also like the dark blue sky and the fireflies and the mention of the hummingbirds. Very beautiful imagery.

A dreamy kind of nostalgia for something that didn't happen.

As I read it seemed like I have experienced all of that at one time or another, but never fully with one I love by my side… So often wished for.

So you wrote not only about your thinking, but of mine.

There is nothing like fireflies to get the poetic juices stirring. Fine poem.

A lovely poem awakening memories that remain precious and everlasting. I have no fireflies around here, at least none that I've seen but there are plenty of hummingbirds since I feed them. Nicely done, Fee. Love and peace to you.
