 Wilted Roses

By: Fee

Wilted roses, petals scattered on the floor

Wilted roses in a vase, on a table, by the door

Wilted roses, tell a story that’s for sure

Wilted roses say, she don’t love me anymore

On our first date, I brought her one red rose

Brought her roses, when I knelt down to propose

She carried roses, down the aisl, heaven knows

Roses will say good-bye, that’s how this story goes

Wilted roses, a gold ring and her house key

Wilted roses, like a song lyric, there for me to see

Wilted roses, George Jones sings a song for me

Wilted roses, our loves now just a memory

In a trance, I throw those wilted flowers away

Sweep up the fallen petals, there’s nothing left to say

I’m a broken man, but I’ll pretend that it’s okay

She took my heart; I knew she couldn’t stay…

I am sure many can relate, Fee. Your words read like they ought to be sung in a ballad or some sad country song. Love and peace to you,

Regis. 🍁

So sad. Here's hoping the speaker will find the strength to grow an entire bush of roses someday.

A sad reality when a marriage breaks up. You make me recall the morning I went to work and the house was beautifully filled like Better Homes & Gardens with all of her antique furniture that she worked so hard to get moved into our new house.

When I came home from work that very same day, the house, while still brand-new, was completely vacant. I stood that night to eat my supper at the counter that remained. I went to bed sleeping on the carpet in our bedroom with a blanket.

Thanks for the remembrance… But I'm okay, eventually brought my furniture and it fills the house nicely. I've grown my own roses to have them wilt in time like rose petals do.

A sad song indeed, beautifully expressed.
