Visuals of Spring

white and purple blooms

perfume the warm morning air

lilacs and jasmine

mingling with the fresh scent

of grass that is newly mowed

on the patio

under a blanket of stars

crickets start their songs

lonesome train whistles join in

small town nighttime serenade

sunlight through the trees

like threads of pale yellow silk

the air is quiet

advancing shadows whisper

merging with the evening dusk

the sun slid downward

slipping past the horizon

tossing up colors

to lay across the still lake

muted afterglow in pinks

As a youngster, the monstrosity and power of steam trains obsessed me, particularly at night when their mournful whistle told me that somewhere in the darkness, travelers were speeding toward their destinations in the bright comfort of a well equipped passenger car.
I have lots of trains running in my basement den about 8-10 inches from the ceiling. My grandsons love to visit to spend time down there.

There is calm and relaxation in your words and images, and the peace that surpasseth all, Carole. A gentle highly atmospheric poem.

Carole, you have rendered for us the rhythm of nature's advance to spring -- painted a scene that is clear, rich and full of the colors of nature's seasonal wardrobe change -- "advancing shadows whisper, merging with the evening dusk", is a serenade to the imagination -- may peace, joy and love embrace you this day and ever more my dear friend -- Jon Michael
