Drawer of Memories

an old black negligee
carelessly tossed in a drawer
long forgotten
once causing a grown man
to swallow his breath
as mystery and intrigue
teased and taunted his every thought
when seductively it covered
firm young curves
offering unconditional surrender
as nights of passion
ruled their universe
until time began to temper
mellowing intense passions
smoothing with maturity's hand
dreams and realities tucked within
a drawer of memories
amid photos and theater tickets
is the old negligee
a faint scent escapes
as the drawer is opened
teasing unexpected vignettes
of unquenchable velvet nights
ruled by youth, passion and wonder
evoking smiles, tears and sweet memories

Carole, oh so well written, line after line:

teased and taunted his every thought...

What a joy to share these sweet memories with you.

Carole, you opened your drawer of memories and shared romance and a real life love affair with us. He was a man most fortunate to have won your love. Passion has filled in the lines with words from your soul. As with all the best rewards of life, the drawer now opened releases it store, its treasure of,"smiles, tears and sweet memories". You have captured all with your pen. May love and peace be yours my dear friend. Jon Michal

my mind was right there in the middle of your wonderfully wistful words... i'm on my 3rd drawer of memories...each more beautiful than the previous...and i never imagined that pj's or flannel gowns could create quite the same...so avoid them at all costs

I believe if we have had that kind of passion, we can have it again. It has no age boundary..I love the way you wrote this, it is filled with amazing qualities and memories we can all relate to.

Carole this is one of the most beautiful memories poems I have had the pleasure to read...it captures the feeling of the moment so perfectly. I think we all have our own memory drawer with both the good and bad memories tucked inside but the trick to remember is there is always room for tomorrow's memories as well.

"...a faint scent escapes...' how perfect that is!
Elegant writing, Carole, the recall is both intense and wistful and finely realised.

This is a beautiful and deep poem, solemn words and eloquently spoken. My first thought as I began reading was oh, to have those memories must be amazing, it must be heavenly. How about you fill your drawer with some new ones and carry on!
Blessings,
Christine

Ah, this is filled with so much remembered passion, Carole. I love this side of you. Though the youthful passion has waned, it is the memories and the dreams that sustain her through the ages.

Carole, what a sweet, lovely poem. But you know what? Though that black negligee may not cling to what used to be that now may be an inch or two or possibly lower, or in places that may have thickened, but to this older guy, the beauty of whom is now older, to this older guy is not diminished but changed in a softer, more gentle way. And those velvet nights? They are, at least for this older guy, those velvet nights can still be as thrilling as all those many years ago.
