ON THE MONEY!! Whoa. Maybe I should put it another way ;D.
You have done a great job of turning the M-word into a metaphor for
what ails us. When Jesus Christ kicked the money-lenders off the
steps {"vipers" was very strong language in that time and place}, I don't believe he did it because they had refused his application for a loan! [Er, I think.] It is so ironic when Get-Rich gurus teach that prayer and "faith" guarantee $ucce$$. . .and that kind of "success" is a sign a person is superior. . .even (or even especially) morally!! Weird & scary world we live in, isn't it? So hard not to want the wrong things!! Thanks for this stimulating and conscience jogging write. Always, 'Pea' <3

Taking these lines on their own, their value as sociohistorical commentary and prophetic vision is quite profound. If it's very unlikely that we shall live to see a time when money is not the ruler of our fates on earth, at least we can look forward to the time when TALES FROM THE APOCALYPSE is in our hands and we can read the entire great work in and out of context at will:-)

The govt does seem to be on a fast track to distruction.

Some say it is a necessary evil. We surely won't long in this world without it. Your poem is reminiscent of the words of Jesus. The money is not evil, but the love of money is the root of all evil.
