You will never learn how to swim if you never enter the waters...or cross that bridge if you don't take the first step.

Poem Artwork

I have asked my self, as I wandered
on the cobblestone streets of my life,
if there was a soul, waiting on a bench
for me to come to that secret park,
hearing my softly approaching steps
like any shadow should make its arrive,
and then, feel the warmth of giving all
to that approaching and waited heart,
without a word a tender welcome
delicately wrapped with many shy smiles.

But, to enter that forest wasn’t a bridge
over the abyss, the waiting soul was sad,
because my feet kept streets wandering
going away, distances growing too far,
putting a bitter taste on a searching tongue
and in the eyes, burning tears all inside,
for what had could been and never was,
for what was wished from a gentle bride,
or from what was expected from a groom
which wasn’t asked, but pushed aside.

The kiss!!! The tender kiss that from
my lips didn’t escape, still there, sad,
they never found those waiting ones
in a lonely bench of a most secret park,
Summer’s fragrance from all the flowers
and feminine perfume charged with desire,
shadows to cover the waiting naked skin
under diamonds shining all over the sky,
and I have asked my self, as I wandered,
why I didn’t jumped over that abyss…
…and followed my heart.

Glad I am of the road I have taken. Alone now and have to wander the forests by myself, But that is life and must adjust.

The whys are always the hardest things to understand! We always wonder what was down the road that we didn't take, would it have led us to Paradise? LOVE YA! SC

You are right, if we don't take a risk, chance, or seize the moment some of the sweeter moments in life might pass us by...great thought provoking write my friend...nothing ventured/nothing gained! Well done!

Georg - great poem about life's what if's.

My life's philosophy - nothing ventured, nothing gained has led to some pretty interesting turns in my life. Where I didn't venture - I gained NOTHING, but it is still ok by me. I have been blessed in so many ways when I followed my heart. Perhaps, it is because I truly believe that the choices I made were right ones, but only time will tell.

God bless you. Kathy

Yes Georg it is a shame that we miss out on the great things in life because we wouldn't take the chance when it was offered to us. Why I didn't jump over the abyss... ...and follow my heart. Thank you for sharing.

A moving piece. Every line spoke of deep longings... I was so drawn to the message of the verses... been there once and it never was fun to be a nearmiss.

Be well,

I find these verses particularly meaningful to me but the whole poem is very compelling. Thank you for sharing this gift, Georg. Love and peace,

I got very deep metaphorical meaning from the great piece. Thank you Georg, Good to see you ain't rusty.
I saw the beauty waiting on the park bench as the beauty of the next life and that first step as being the first step in surrendering to the inevitability of it.
Interesting piece.

Deeply, profoundly moving, even inspirational: never know what's ahead of you unless you take that first step. The beginning of a thousand journeys begins with one foot forward. :) Well penned, Georg, indeed.

This is riveting and such a good life lesson...we often hold back afraid of what may be on the other side of the bridge instead of going forward and learning as we go.

Quite profound, Georg, and I think we should always try to follow our hearts, brother, no matter where they might lead us, even into that abyss.
