In a not so secret and forgotten garden…
under brown and withered flowers I found
the image of ethereal fingers of winds
that stopped moving with a dead butterfly.
I shed a tear that came from deep my soul,
because what I was seeing was the end of life,
no rivers moving toward the mighty seas
and no watchful eagles flying on my skies.
Tell me, you that have gone so many roads,
should, when finding one dead on your path,
cover with earth those delicate fallen wings
or let them to be taken by mercilessly decay?
For the life end of a colorful little thing
should be stopping in that garden and cry?
One day we will be under withering flowers
our wings not moving, like that dead butterfly.
God bless you. Kathy
Of all creatures, I think it is saddest to see a dead butterfly... They have a ethereal quality that you perfectly captured here. They are untouchable in their beauty, since the touching of their beauty brings them death.
You captured the essence of loss in this...

Perhaps when that day comes we'll be given other wings. The kind that will not wither. Peace, and Blessigs Always, Paul.

I have come across dead butterflies before and have always treated them with care. I just can't stand the thought of seeing them, even in death, run over by bicycles or walked on, thanks to every day foot traffic. They were too beautiful in life and I know, if the roles were reversed, I wouldn't want anyone walking on or running over me, in death.
This is a beautiful poem on a sad topic, Georg. Thank you.
Take care,
Jill
I usually pick the butterfly up and put it in my Bible as a bookmark...after I had it laminated!!

When I found a beautiful Dead butterfly
that refused to leave the sanctuary of my enclosed garden
I have her still in a large Glass Cake encasement
In memory of her magnificence, as We momorzie our own

This composition strikes all ontological thoughts; takes the reader on trip to inner analysis, and stimulates will for quality life.
"Of Dead Butterflies" is touching, instructing and sublime.
