The Traveler & Hell

Went by a forest devastated by fire and a sudden thought came of what the Traveler would thought and feel if after a long journey of searching he walked inside that smoldering landscape...

Poem Artwork

The traveler entered the blackened forest
where the fire was left to running wild,
lightning could be the punishment to trees
that to pray for rain they forgotten had,
or a malevolent spirit bend on destruction
igniting that all consuming fire was the one;
it wasn’t a welcoming landscape but a desert
that a crazy and demoniac of a madman
hat taken is brushes and damn with the muses,
when he decided to paint everything with black.

Wondered if Hell wasn’t colored in flame’s red
but with the darkest color of Absentias’s life,
where devils are hiding inside burning embers
waiting under ashes for naive travelers going by
and inflict searing pain as only fire knows how,
blistering the skin of sinners souls, unrepentant
spirits wandering from blooming Eden gardens
into a shadow landscape made from pure darks.
Maybe in a moment when God wasn’t looking,
Devil saw his time to burn a little of His Paradise.

He approached an old and gnarled by age oak tree,
that inferno on earth he couldn’t possible survive;
down its amputated branches lying on the ground
after with searing pain asking with a loud, “why?”
with sparkles and smoke like a dying grandfather
which for centuries didn’t but raise to the skies,
giving shadow to the needed on hot summer’s days
and to the little birds from the falcon a place to hide;
that old oak, if one thing, can represent the years
taken for granted when just one lightning make all ash.

The Traveler wondered in front of a cinder bush,
if Moses was ever in front of one like this one
without a voice telling about forty horizons ahead
on a desert made of hunger and a Golden Calf;
was faith moving those feet for so many years
looking for the last horizon and the Promised Land?
or they were just wandering on a burned forest
where trees had forgotten how to pray with times?
A charred rattlesnake is not dangerous anymore,
nor an eagle with all its feather burned is regal.

He was walking on a world devoid of little songs
where gone were the gossamer spider’s traps,
Creation born from the infinite kindness of love
destroyed with a little thing, perhaps it was a match.
Guilt no necessarily need to be world shattering,
but what kind of guilt a innocent forest could had
to deserve a visit from that demoniacal painter which
even innocence he was allowed to paint with black?
The Traveler moved away to the next greener horizon
maybe there he would meet God, if he moved fast.

Dear Georg,
The scenery that you describe is very real. It reminds me of a similar scene. It was around four o'clock in the afternoon, when the sound of the cannons and the sound of the machine guns faded away and left only a few crippled and wounded enemy soldiers in the field. Some were moaning and some were crying. At that moment I could not understand why war was necessary. This left me in a very sad mood, but I had to continue lifting the spirits of my people, whom I was commanding. I must say, Georg, you are not only a great poet, but you know how to bring situations alive. Love, Emile
By the way, I could not find part 3 (The Traveler, Lambs and Wolves)

The Bible tells of hell as the place where there is "weeping and gnashing of teeth from sheer pain" and of "searing heat" (as in burning steel) and a forest fire such as this pales in comparison to hell because a forest fire has "spaces of air". Real hell fire from those who "came out of near death experiences" tells us of searing heat -no space for temperature changes, simply one type, one degree- the hottest type of heat one can think about. Nuclear heat comes close.
The devil does not burn forests, men do. Arsonists are men with warped minds unable to deal with themselves so they light a forest, we call them pyromaniacs. A man can meet God in his heart, he does not need to go wandering, he just needs to ask.

Heard about more homes being abandoned in Calif where forest fires broke out yesterday. They do destroy everything in their path. So sorrowful a way to have to leave your house. The traveler can meet God anywhere in his path. He does not even have to move fast. Liked this analogy, and good thinking and writing. You are supreme and extra talented.

I love the analogy to the hell and the devil when it comes to burnt out forest fires for next to such a raging inferno is no doubt so close to all of our perceptions as to what hell is really like. Great write My. Georg

Always sad to witness such destruction and know there is nothing that you can do. Sometimes fire is the cleansing of mother earth's soul, but more times than not it is carlessness....

Be always safe,

A thought provoking piece!!

I think this poem of mine "Bleeding Dust" can be a good reply to this excellent offering!!

She walked away from barren land
To seek life {love}
In new found ground
Away from bleeding dusty sands
She found another broken heart
Bleeding with this land
Stark reality now facing her
All she could do was just stand and stare
From dust to dust she soon will be
Living across this barren land
Where hearts will forever be!!
As bitter tasting waters from above
Torched and burned away
Poisoned in time and remembrance
But when time does come to say goodbye
As hot dry wind blow bleeding dust away
And as harshness scorched the ground
To turned clay into bleeding dust
We will rest our heads on barren sand
As bleeding dust will fill our hearts
And with dripping tears in drifting sand
We will feed this once barren land

Love Tinka

Deeply moving, thought provoking excellence, Georg - fires are truly terrifying, but they have their place - to renew the soil for new life - well done.

Life, like the forest, flourishes until evil tries to crush it and leave it in ashes. Nature renews itself, as does life, when we rise from the ashes and build a new life.
