Sometimes because of anger, frustration or just plain solitude you stop, turn around and look far away back until your sight enters the shadows of time...
“No je ne regrette rien” she sung
the little sparrow of France that life
put the words that many of us couldn’t
but that she did, her name? Edith Piaf.
Then again a few, but just a few of us
same words out from our mouths can
after been tossed by the fury of storms
against the cruelest rocks so very hard.
Be send to war to kill unknown men
in your wildest dreams you will not ask,
leaving the warmth feeling of the homes
and mothers with strangled goodbyes.
Abandoned everything that was present
and crossed over leaving all of my past,
to build me another present with chimeras
made of nothing and worth not too much.
Freedom give to your feet Hermes wings
to travel without stopping from land to land
never letting roots to take hold on one place
or give love the chance of a nurturing time.
Feeling of home was then long forgotten,
home was a word giving name to a house,
just a roof to keep winter’s snow away,
only an empty shell on the beach’s sands.
Kisses, how many of them touched my lips?
they were short lived like the shooting stars,
no love was given, no love was promised,
no roses to remember, nothing inside the heart.
The years accumulated into a aging mountain,
getting old we don’t believe happen so fast,
one day we are forced to look over our shoulder,
and there it is in all its pathetic glory, our past.
But then…“no, I don't regret anything…!”
“no, je ne regretted rien…!”
Regrets are but a few, yet a life lived full and perhaps dreams that have come true. Dreams that many hold near and dear, still keeping those sights on the future yet to be. Powerfully, sincerely penned...
I feel these words written from your heart Georg and life must go on, they say if you change one thing you have to change it all, I'm glad you don't regret a thing. Thank you for sharing.
As I have been working in a nursing home of late, I find myself not feeling as old as I had once felt...just cause we think we are getting old, let me tell you, its actually a good thing for the most part...as is this poem, my oldest bro' Edvard...your YOUNGEST bro' Ed (oh and Rufuz)

Me neither, Buddy. Hindsight. It was "interesting." A lot of it was not fun. There were a few high points. None of it killed me. Made me stronger? Maybe, maybe not, but I would not change anything. Tomorrow may bring another challenge. I will answer it. “no, je ne regretted rien…!” Semper Fi!
