Mirror mirror on the wall...

A blind girl asked a passer by "what's the color of the Danube River?"
The passer by looked from the gray and dirty waters to the expectant face of the blind girl and said,
"Blue, dear girl, it is blue"

Poem Artwork

Tired eyes are looking back at me
with that look predators have at night
when the weak howls with primal fears
and shadows fly with the wind passing by.

The face, the face of a man looking beyond
as he is approaching his hundred years of life,
with a secret hiding in every and each wrinkle
but no one of them was made because he smiled.

His soul has wandered through many lands
and yet, no place could be named home, light
switched off by many a cruelty of warring men
and childhood forgotten because he never had one.

What can you say to your mirror, now, today,
asking for it to show the truth or begging for a lie?
your eyes are seeing what it’s not there, not anymore,
because the real you to the truth, today, doesn’t apply.

Glass covered by silver and yet in upheaval
for showing your old face after one too many cries,
a sailor, a soldier, a tunnel rat and many other things,
mirror, mirror on the wall, please, can you give me a lie?

THE MIRROR KNOWS WHAT YOU DON'T KNOW, GEORG...FOR THERE YOU GO...LOOKING AT YOURSELF WITH THOSE NATURAL EYES AGAIN. CLOSE YOUR EYES, GEORG AND SEE WHAT GOD SEES...THE BEAUTY OF A MAN'S SOUL THAT WILL SHINE FOREVER BRIGHT. FLESH THAT RUSTS AND DECAYS IS HARDLY WORTH PONDERING OVER...ONLY THE ETERNAL THINGS MATTERS. SO COME NOW...GET THAT BEAUTY FOR ASHES AND THAT OIL OF JOY FOR MOURNING AND THE GARMENT OF PRAISE FOR THE SPIRIT OF HEAVINESS. THEN, LOOK IN THE MIRROR AND 'SEE' THE BEAUTY OF YOU. LOVE, BLESSINGS AND FAITH. MAY TOTAL HEALING(SPIRITUALLY, PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY) BE YOURS MY FRIEND.

Captured in the extreme. Very descriptive and hauntingly true in some persons. Faces show stories of life and you have written one well. I want one of those lying mirrors too!

You have captured a journey that some of us have tasted in some form or other. Perhaps the lesson has taught us- as your writing teaches me; that laughter and love comes from the inner soul.

You've given us another gem Georg. Your lines:

"with that look predators have at night
when the weak howls with primal fears
and shadows fly with the wind passing by."

are soul stirring.

Happy New Year Georg,

One of your best writes to date, what a way to start a New Year. The depth and perception of this one is real and grips the reader by the soul. Very well done and love the graphic as well.

What a beautifully written poem! Thanks dear George for this wonderful offering. You reminded me of a poem I once wrote about a somali refugee lady who because of overeating gained excessive weight and when she looked herself in the mirror said" Don´t lie to me. tell me the truth. This image is not mine"

Georg, this poem shows me the depth of your beautiful soul. You are who you want to be. Who has evolved after all of your years on this Earth, be proud of what you have become, a true humanitarian, a wise sage, a comedian, a friend, a poet/writer, but most of all a beautiful soul to all that know you.
I wish you health, prosperity, and much love during this coming New Year! Thank you for being a friend to me.
Peace and love,
Namaste,
Amber "V"

Georg I know a few who has set their past free in order to live a decent future. They don't dear look in the mirror to ask for reason of another time now burried. Georg,

Be happy you're here: if you weren't, we could not read your poetry. And that drawing is fascinating: I got lost in it for a while. Did you do it? Self portrait? Reminds me of Hemingway in a way ... don't know why. Another tormented soul ... Every wrinkle tells a story; so do those eyes. Well done, and Happy New Year!

(((HUGS))) and love, Karla.

Interestingly written Georg...to view into the mirror and find the truth and yet one reaches into the mind to ask for a lie...life can cripple the very soul, a wonder at the ripe old age of time...

nice work...and a Happy New Year beginning...

Ah, brother Edvard, ye olde mirror is too truthy. But, there is a bright side -- we survived much better than those who tried to kill us, a thought which should put a smile in your mirror :-)

Now we have 2009 -- let's show 'em how it's done!

Oh, I just looked at my old wrinkled birth certificate where it shows my name as "Edgar Legrey Henry" -- this surely has been an interesting life.
