Some will condemn my levity, others will frown at my apparent disrespect, but the most will understand that I am a friend of His. No golden thrones there, no trumpets or fanfares, just two old, white haired men playing chess by the sea shore. That one of them happened to be God you should believe, because we have been playing together ever since.
I sat alone by the sea one afternoon
when here comes a very old man
asking, was I playing chess with myself?
well, no one but me was around,
so, it was a very dumb question to ask
but politely I just said, aha!
What’s your name? the beggar said,
for the state of his clothes most be one,
with ashes long dirty and unruly beard
but there was a mischievousness eyes
that looked at me like something was fun
with a face illuminated by a big smile.
Seeing my reluctance to give a stranger
my name he said, “oh well! You are Edward
and if names are so important here around
you can call me God and leave it at that,
would you play a chess party with me
if I promise not to cheat reading your mind?”
All of you, you can believe what I tell
or brush it away all of it with a laugh,
as I did after looking again at my visitor
that was claiming being almighty God
by asking him if he can go on water
and he said, “don’t be a ridiculous man”
But then, as he was sitting in front on me
I felt a deep strange stirring in my heart,
he didn’t came with a earth shaking
or with millions of angels as bodyguards,
he was in front of me like someone homeless
a dirty old geezer wearing shredded rags.
Between us, kings, bishops and humble pawns,
“I can be your friend, the one you never had,
the one you asked me in so many prayers,
that’s is, if that’s what you really want”
I saw in his eyes that He was hoping for me
to accept that my only real friend…was God.

From symbolism to belief, from the magic of faith to hypnotism, everything can be under trance. The first Commandment proves that "God plays with no kids of the Earth"
It looks like the message here is clear: One wpn't know what a friend is until One devotes friendship.
This poem makes me think from the first to the last line. Its closing stanza makes me travel on the track of history.
Well Georg, I guess this one is a poem that speaks to us in many ways.As always you give us all food for thought!
Much peace, love, and light,

This poem sure does touch my heart...and I believe you, Georg...I do most certainly believe about you and your chess-game Friend. Did you know He has time for many other friends, too...thank goodnes!

Georg, I see you have many talented and kind people admiring your work. I am new and just getting into your world and I guess I like it...I don't play chess but can you be my friend too? :-)
Did you guys bet? and how much? and what? did "He" cheat? Is "He" walking around now with your clothes on? Where you on that cheap rum again? You sure it wasn't Bobby Fisher in the afterlife. So many questions I have, as always, I gets no answers.
A good one George, I was thinking of the Brothers Grimm, why did that come to mind? I wonder. Anyhow it's the game that counts, not winning or losing ha! Hugs! Jasmin Horst
I LOVED THIS...I SEE NO DISRESPECT AT ALL...I SEE ONE'S INTERPRETATION OF GOD...AN INTERPRETATION THAT ONE CAN ACCEPT AND 'WORK WITH'. DONE WELL...WITH THE VIVID IMAGERY THAT YOU ALWAYS PROVE TO BE SO CAPABLE OF DOING. THANKS FOR SHARING AND GOD BLESS.

The Essence comes in many forms and there is no disrespect here. Enjoyed it very much. Lady J
I love it, Georg. It reminds me of the story I wrote about Adam creating everything and finally he created a God who kept beating him in a game Adam had created. It upset Adam and he knew God was cheating so he played game after game to try to see his "divinity fudge."
Georg, you gave me goose bumps with this powerful piece. Why not play chess with God. We sit on a swing together in my garden regularly, and just swing, listen to the birds, watch the clouds float by and giggle softly.
I love it and like to think that God is this loving friendly entity that if he choses he can pop in and visit with us the way we would most enjoyed sharing time with him. Me, I think I would have him over for a few beer and maybe a jam session around the campfire.

the almighty fortress of wisdom!!!...was I listening to God? or was that Georg? Either way it is all true from the dirty ole ash geezer to the only friend, and with that the respectful depth on knowing about friendship & of how to have a friend; a real true friend...one must be a true friend to another...
besides, one never knows when God wants to visit in person :)

You express much with regard to "humanity" and "God" in these verses, Georg. Thank you. Love and best wishes to you,
