He said, "let the children come to me" because He knew that children know better and innocence is the fabric of Christmas, faith and belief. If a child around you wishes to put that star on the tree's top no one will shine more beautifully for the baby in the crib.

For her first one she wanted
the stable on its roof to have
long and yellow straws, with
sawdust covering the floor
and over the stable’s top
the likes of a shining star.

A crib placed in the middle
holding Jesus the Holy Infant
with Mary knelt on the left
and Joseph on the right:
she also wanted shepherds
kneeling all around.

In the stable she wanted
a fresh milk giving cow
plastic chickens “borrowed”
from her brother’s toy farm
and what can be more cute
that a few little lambs?

With gold, incense and myrrh
the Wise Men will arrive,
Melchior riding a camel,
on a horse will be Balthasar
with Caspar in the rear
riding an elephant.

Elephant?!!! dear granddaughter
there wasn’t any elephant…
she looked at me like I was silly
and said, “of course there was,”
and with both hands on her hips
she become firm and adamant.

So, there this year will be a new
Nativity Stable on our lawn,
and I am sure the churchgoers
will look when passing with surprise
at the well known Nativity scene
now with an added elephant.
