Aging is a trip! Some days are better than others, but each one is a Gift. Just don't try too hard.

Poem Artwork

 BLOCKHEAD

An invitation arrived today
An opportunity to shine -
Well, at least, sparkle.

Words peppered the page
But the flow would not follow
Now a dozen crumpled titles
Adorn my office floor.
And still, nothing great emerges.

It's a mental traffic jam!
The signs are all there -
Stop, Go, Yield...
I just can't get into the right lane
I merely chug and stall...

Frustration rises like an overheated engine
Usually I do my best under pressure -
When time is of the essence
This time though it's just a fizzle.
I need a word-mechanic!

I cannot think or write
Anything worthwhile
Nay, today I'm just a
Blockhead.

Sometimes our inabilities can produce possibilities which become probabilities. While it's always wise to stretch one's self a little, it is equally wise to know one's abilities and limitations and not to overstrain to exceed them..

Mostly, it's facing the truth and acknowledging it when we just can't proceed or produce as we'd like.

Ironically, the LORD will nearly always use it to teach or reveal something in our own psyche/soul that needs fine-tuning!.  Life is a trip - aging is a challenge - enjoy them both!

Rhonda, I can really relate to your poem. Sometimes I just can't think and write like I did in my younger days. Thankfully it seems to pass in a while, I just keep plugging along and filling the pages. Thank you for sharing this.

How delightful, this poem created as comparing our energy with that of an automobile. And the great little gif is priceless! It matches the poem beautifully. You are so right. Even when we have trouble and need a word mechanic, we can sometimes come up with a sleek racer of a poem as a result of our frustration turning into inspiration.

Aww... I can always rely on the poet "nymph" Rhonda to come up with another creative writing piece the theme of which I can just lie back and relax upon. I can so relate. I have given up on "forcing" myself to write something. It will come if God/Creator/Divine Entity/All That Is (and Jesus and you and I, Rhonda are part of The Whole) God created us for a reason. Wow! Your verses got me going in my thought process. Thank you, friend. Love, peace, and blessings to you,

Regis. 🙏🌸💕🦋🐬💚🌳🌲

I can relate and truly understand your concept on aging and life. Looking back on my writing adventures I can literally see which were inspired, from the heart, soul or mind as compared to things I forced. As we age we not only slow down physically, I believe we slow down mentally and from experience we only give our best. Enjoy the journey Rhonda...
