Don’t be fooled. This is not a real story but it is the kind of tale we used to make up to share on Halloween. Only, we didn’t make it rhyme.

Halloween

It was Halloween night, cloudy and dark and there was no moon to shed any light.

The moist night air clung to our garb and fog clouded our view to add to our plight.

There we were, standing beneath the chestnut tree when we heard a rustling sound.

It started as a low moan but soon became shrill, causing my heart to pound.

Eyes wide open and neither able to speak we search for the source of the noise.

We both held our breath and wanted to run but then a voice said, “Are you afraid, little boys.”

Both Jimmy and I know the pitch of that voice it was our Sister, Sue.

“Why do you scare us half to death,” we complained.  “Have you nothing better to do?”

Our sister simply laughed and stepped from behind the tree but then she simply vanished.

We heard her cries but they sounded far away and suddenly the cries were vanquished.

Now the fear we had felt when we first heard her voice was replaced with a new fear of things that are unseen.

This is the kind of fireside story we used to share on Halloween.

Do you believe in ghosts and goblins and things that go bump in the night?

If you do, I am sure there is not a child on the Earth who does not share your plight.

Yeah well! This is true and it was fun when the kids were small. We did not celebrate Halloween when I was a kid. That was a long time ago. Now, it is said that we should not let the kids celebrate Holloween because it is from the dark side, evil that is. We should spend more time talking to them about the saints and praying for and to our family saints who have gone on before. Makes sense to me.lf

Lew,

I strongly echo Lena's sentiments...which puts "don't be fooled" in a much more accurate Light.

The trouble with Halloween, Lew, is it's connection with the devil etc! I avoid it. Thankfully, we live in a condo. No trick or treating allowed!

God Bless
