I have found that when I pray, it is better not to ask for things. The truth is if I need it, God already knows. Jesus gave us a beautiful model of what prayer should be. Recite the Lords prayer. It is a prayer of praise and thanksgiving. It asks only for God to hear it. It reminds us that God is the source of all life. With that in mind, I have written this Thanksgiving Prayer.
Thanksgiving Prayer
Dear Lord and Heavenly Father I pray to you each day.
The only thing I I can think of to say
Is Thank you, Lord for skies, be they blue or gray.
Thank you for clouds that form in the skies.
I praise you that they are like music to my eyes.
Thank you Lord for all the clear summer nights.
I gratefully admire the darkness and its lesser lights.
The moon and the stars shine and glimmer.
I am even in awe of how the evening sun diminishes as it grows dimmer.
Thank you Lord for you have made the blossoms that bloom in the spring.
I praise you when I hear the birds as they sing.
They are singing their own hymns for they praise you as I do.
Springtime, winter, summer and autumn are all gifts from you.
Each has a beauty which defines it in its own special way.
I thank you for all of my yesterdays and also for today.
You have given me life Dear Heavenly Father who watches over me always.
This is why I fear not tomorrow but look up with a faith that allows me to live out my days.
Thank you, my Lord for you have given me eyes that can see
Not only what is but what can also come to be.
Your love has been my source of love that I can share with others.
I thank you that you have taught me to love my sisters and brothers.
Thank you Lord. I know not how I can ever repay
Yet, I will live as best I can for you each and every day.
Hi Lew, A lovely prayer of Thanksgiving. We have so much to be thankful for. If we all got together and write about them, can you imagine the list? I wish many others will present their thank-you prayer here. It would be a wonderful gift in itself to our Creator.
About asking, though, I do have to quote the words of Jesus. "Until now you have not asked for anything in My name. Ask and you will receive and your joy will be complete." John 16:24NIV. So even though He knows our every need, He still expects us to ask. You see, asking is one of the most difficult things to do because of pride. Now, there's something think about, eh! :)
