Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.

Poem Artwork

These are the words of Christ, who is the son of the living God the carrier of truth for us to find.

The greatest command is to love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, soul and mind.

The second greatest commandment I give to you is for you to keep.

Love thy neighbor as thyself for as you sow so shall you reap.

These two commandments are the basis of all the laws of the prophets.

You cannot claim to be a child of God if you cannot keep these commandments.

Therefore, my brother let love be your goal when any man or woman you meet.

Never let this love fade, grow dim or in any way retreat.

For God loved us all so much he gave us his Son who died on the cross.

It is our calling to pass the love on…. To fail is our greatest loss.

Love him and love one another

For he has made every woman our sister and each man our brother.

You have a really admirable talent for religious poetry, I wish that I could write it so well.

Lew, I have always known that, if the Ten Commandmends were universally taught and enforced, we would find no need for other laws. One big problem is the gaping chasm of religious differences in a world where only about 33% of the people are Christians. The instant we say that "this is true because Jesus said it," we are turning off about 66% of the world's population. I know it is a cliche, but we truly are preaching to our own choir, and therefore falling way short of what Jesus intended. We can do better, and that is a great blessing, as you have so well stated in this poem. Well done, Lew!
