I suppose we've all been in this place at one time or another...wanting so much for someone else and yet in a place where we can only wait patiently.

Waiting For You

What is this place he has driven me to…
A purgatory of confusion…
Limp and helpless
awaiting a refurbished spirit.

I am so unaccustomed to this space
where minutes become eons
accumulating viciously as the ticking
reverberates in my ears.

Focus has abandoned me.
I am adrift and even the moon
eludes my vision,
dreams clouded by wrenching solitude.

Aching confusion competes with streams
staining cheeks and lips…
Suffering silently as if to appear brave…
Attempting to understand, yet crumbling within
From unspoken turmoil.

He insists I have a strength he has never encountered.
One that defies the cruel realities of life.
Choosing instead to face them head-on,
In favor of a love so pure.

But the silence is a greater challenge
than threatened pride or uncharted waters.

He looks to the earth for catharsis,
And I am left behind
Questioning my own reserves,
And need to nurture, comfort, and listen near.

Would it be different if I were in easy reach…
Is it the miles that separate
that force him to seek nature’s arms
Leaving my wanting ones behind?

I am calming now, eyes drained and tired...
Yet the raging silence remains a burden,
Almost more than I can bear.
Perhaps in sleep, if it will come,
I can watch over his hours of solitude.

But before I fade into the night,

I will impart undying hope to that
hollow place he is now,
and wrap him in my arms embrace
so that he will feel the shelter of my strength.

Fill that longing space in my heart,
Surround him with my love….
Protect him from harm

And bring him safely home.

Even when one is at a distance and alone there is that silence of wishing for the wellness of the other...

and their return...

a very nice work...

Very well written and very sad. The sentiment you share here sounds vaguely familiar to me. I wonder if he "made it safely home?"

Beautifully written. I'm not a patient woman, however, since I believe men know what they want or don't want fairly quickly. :-) Nevertheless, I also know that this is exceptional writing. ~~Nordette

This poem is a call from the depth of the heart. It ia a pining complete in each echoed word. I wish you strength and faith. Believe!

I can completely relate to the emotions and meanings expressed via your verses here, Taylor. Substitue "her" for "him" and it all fits. Thank you for sharing this offering. Welcome to AD! Love and peace to you,

Regis

A very revealing and personal moment is shared through your words, Taylor. Welcome to the Den!! If only our love could cradle them and keep them within our focus, but alas...their life is theirs to live and if they cannot for any reason return to us what we deliver to them, time is the only factor in the undoing. Beautiful work!
Take care,
Sherry
