EVERGREEN

You ask why

The leaf falls from the tree

When Autumn’s chill fills the air,

Or why two lover’s part

Their unexpected destiny…

While as the leaf no longer green

Floats hopeless, lost in mid-air stream

To season’s end and sorrow.

Life’s branches a tangle of uncertainty,

Hapless victims of fortune’s shear

Or caustic storm of indecision...

Fate dangles its tenacious hue

Of somber colored tendrils.

Though unseen sprouts wax yellow-green

Still hidden ‘neath the seasoned golds and browns

Clinging to their last breath...

Then drift to russets that cover frozen ground,

Trodden by intruder’s feet who would believe

Selfishly, that crumbled leaves were theirs

To kick and claim, their illusion sustained...

Profuse, delusional… profain.

And as one cloak would change…another would disguise

To hack away at broken bark, longing to heal

From this unhealthy parasite.

And yet the trunk remains in tact,

Stands handsome, marble-burled and thick,

Impervious to nature’s storm and summer’s heat

Gaining sustenance now from blessed soil

And His magnificent gifts of sun and harvest moon.

Still clinging to love’s memory

Proudly choosing to ignore unwanted attack

It’s roots secure in fertile ground,

Bare limbs a haven, arms unfurled

Prepared for October‘s rain to settle the dust

Infuse the nutrient of crumbled leaves

Into it’s core again…and quell the fear of Winter

While Autumn’s song the wren does sing,

Upon those limbs that nurture the yellow-green

And welcome to this lover’s nest

The fragile leaf of her again.

You powerfully convey the aura of the moments you describe and your verses are most meaningfully symbolic. Thank you for sharing this gift, Taylor. Love and peace to you,

Classic lyricism with mystic sensitivity and understanding... makes me think of the pre-Raphaelites and Romantics with their acute awareness of the co-dependencies in life and love. You are a writer who ALWAYS weaves spirituality and sensuality seamlessly on your poetic loom, Taylor, and I, too, believe them to be one. A wonderful tapestry or words you needlepoint for us here... Can you tell I'm fixated on William Morris at the moment?? LOL K xx

Words placed to visual perfection. Nothing added or detracted from these lines could possibly make it any better. Well Done

Dear Taylor,

This poem is a wonderful perspective on the Circle of Life. The last four lines could be a poem itself. What an inspiration!

Love, Joy & Peace,

This has a beautiful and wistful ambiance permeating throughout the mellow thread, that metaphorically symbolises a growing awareness and cognisance, of the moods and reflections of love and nature

You are a natural poet, with tremendous innate and sublime skills and touches

Taylor you are so very creative. This poem reminds me of a film I can't remember the name of, but I loved it as it ended with autumn leaves of every color caught in a whirlwind as two lovers parted to retrun to their families. I love the imagery of this gem!

(Watch out for Justine she looks good;-)

Yes Taylor...the tree is fertile from the female side, with blankets of bloom and new growth for spring and for winter, a haven for creatures from the cold wind of winter. The male side is brazen with roots firmly planted in the ground embracing in strength...the creatures there for security. Your pen is the one of a spirit very close to nature. You couldn't describe it this way if you weren't. This is very beautiful and I'm learning more and more of you as a writer and spirit.
Love,
Susan
