LAST DANCE

He asked again

if I love him...

as his tears enunciated the spaces

and time ...

the distance in between

this slow dance of togetherness,

this rare and elusive betrothal

of heart and soul, man to woman.

Does he realize

I can refuse him nothing

this spirit kindred so undeniable

I have found

with a love so profound

it pales in the simile of the sunshine

that will grace tomorrow’s sands?

He asks if I want him,

in pleading tones recollected

as I walk this nightly path, a rehearsal

in silent ballet with his spirit,

heart spiraling through stolen moments

in preparation for the next entrechat.

Oh muse, it is far more than want this love.

As sure as the waning moon illuminates

the midnight tide,

huge and pale orange as he consumes my thoughts

and I succumb…

surrender to him like a child

running home in heaven's torrent

to be cleansed of  foolish insecurity

seeking shelter and temptation

in the tinder of his embrace.

Mere love and longing like stepping stones

from verbal allure

to fidelity and emotion's promise.

Steadfast affirmation...

this aching need for forever's embrace.

Retreat heart from those empty spaces

in the eye of life's storm and revel

in dulcet deluge of discovery.

I seek the beauty that remains

And I find it in you.

Make love to me in nature's metaphor,

as one with dawn’s arousing scintillance

in her aqueous tone of marsh grasses and tidal surge…

in those places where your youth absorbed the lure

and wonder ever endures

as you rediscover it through me.

Indulge me in your secret spaces.

Capture me in your romance.

Share this love within memory's eye

As we have met in centuries before,

tinted by the innocence of your first view

in turquoise pendulumed twilight…

and when the past becomes familiar,

we will find new places of our own.

Now ask me once again if I love you...

or is it I who should ask you?

Will you save your last dance for me?

Taylor Ryan

This SO thoroughly entrances and engulfs me that I [CANNOT] begin to describe in simple language what it does to me; and even in complex discourse, I would struggle to embody the fullness of emotion encompassed by this scintillating and dare I say stunning jewel of literary prosaic poetry. Keep up the increible work! -- Jeff

Quite simply breathtaking. The levels and profundity to this work are astounding and I defy anyone not to be moved deeply by this stirring poetry. I feel there is little that I can add other than to say that I gained so much from this write ...you read my heart sometimes Tay and that scares me...as you once said parallel paths. Applause and ovation. Love Panda :)xox

Such tentativeness and delicateness is woven into these superb lines Blueberry. You never cease to captivate as you grow and fulfill your mandate as an exceptionally romantic visionary. Who is this muse? I hope you are well and healthy!

I have read and re-read "Last Dance" three times.

First line, first Stanza: He asked...
" " second " : Does he realize
" " third " : He asked if
NOW, the closing lines:

"Now ask me once again if I love you...
or is it I who should ask you?
Will you save your last dance for me?"

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Considering all the abstract, symbolism and surrealism, I can't see how this man appears on the closing lines.

I will read it again tomorrow. maybe my eyes are failing me tonight.

Respectfully,

Has all the stay-poppin elegance and subliminal soulish heat of Jane Austen, and I like the journalistic quality of the Voice. Timeless romance here, Taylor and has your signature all over it: that of sublime imagery and metaphor that is so stunningly visual and apposite. I am so in awe of your ability to write loooooooonger poems. 16 lines seems to be my max! :)) Wonderfully paced and spaced. TY K xx

I have to agree with Mr. Broome's comments. This poem exemplifies the amazing power of the written word. I sense a huge emotional and intimate love force surging within these words and lines. It is powerful! The power lies in the ability of the poet to expertly use words to convey honestly those deepest innermost feelings within each of us and touch the heart of the reader. As Mr. Broome points out, you have created no illusion here. It is a compelling and "convincing" expression of love and you should be pleased and proud of what you have accomplished. You are a most talented young lady and I am simply smitten by your poetic prowess.

Taylor - Now, From a man's viewpoint - mmmm, er, ah, that is....
I'm just melted butter after reading your poem. It's a masterful thing, covering so many aspects of love and the way love is expressed.

Such gorgeous and love ladened words, expertly strung together
to create, not an illusion, but convincing, more powerfully than
Tony lay on Cleo or Juliet bared before Romeo. History making!

Know this; you've created a new and distant benchmark for the
rest of us. Thank you, Talented Lady. - Bill

Even Dickenson pales to comparison after reading your words of love and passion. From the quote to the graphic, the love I find within each verse brought not only tears, but such incredible joy to my heart for you and your loved one. Happy Valentine's Day sweet friend.
