When turmoil threatened to claim my life,
I reminisced on the relationship we had back then.
Your loving arms of protection embraced me---
Making it easier with every calamity to contend.

As long as I was content with your provisions
I stayed satisfied, my entire being whole.
But the moment my eyes outgrew my needs
I felt the famine knaw away at my soul.

It took having success and feeling the praise
For me to see how futile is its appeal.
What good is gaining the recognition and a name
When your peace of mind it seems to steal?

Through your word you spoke, reminding me
Of the price my waywardness would cost.
In your 66 conversations, from Genesis to Revelation,
You warned by straying, my life could easily be lost.

I mentally witnessed your dealings with your people,
Tolerating their errors as well as their sins.
Time and again you pleaded with them to turn back
So the healing of their relationship with you could begin.

Some obeyed, repentant and saddened by making your heart feel sad.
The najority continued in their shameful course,
Turning their back on you, shunning the good for bad.

When your patience had reached its limit
And your message wasn't getting through;
They gave you no choice but to carry out judgment,
Giving them over to the evil they chose to pursue.

So today I reflect on my own shortcomings and flaws,
Knowing what indulging in this wicked system could do.
I prayerfully decide its time to love you more,
Striving for the real life and happiness
Found only with you.
