Coming Undone

I feel I am coming undone,

The stitches of self-confidence,

Separating at their seams.

Like a duck on a pond, gliding along,

Onlookers see serenity and peace,

As the ripples flow to the shore.

But under the surface, I paddle so furiously,

Working so hard just to keep up pretenses.

There seem too many restraints holding me back,

Stalling my dreams, I feel less than noble.

For I am not happy with just doing,

Moving by rote muscle memory, Skimming along,

I have a burning to be something more,

To inspire, to influence, to somehow change the world.

So, a child left my care today,

Three years my student, my own Huck Finn,

I didn’t do enough I fear, or didn’t do it right,

And I realize how fragile my own ego is,

My childhood still haunts, as I doubt my own value,

I feel I am coming undone.

Often times I feel this way when something happens to one that I have cared for so many years. Just recently a 19 year old girl, an angel, died from a car accident. We worked through all the bad times in her life and she was finally "well", only to have her flame blown out.

Doubtful, Karen. I don't think a person who has your strength could possibly come undone.
You spread blessings, you know that?
Love,

As we reflect on what was, what is, and what could be, we can't lose sight of our sucesses because they get overcast by the setbacks that go along with them. This outpouring I know is heartfelt but like all people with huge hearts you tend to forget all the good you have done which far outways anything else. Kids depend on you Karen and you give it your "best" that is all anyone can desire.

Wonderfully sincere and honest! Now, just relax and know that you couldn't have written this if you didn't have your hands on the handle - reading the instruction book - and raring to get going with helping to keep a life together. You, Karen, can do it. You really can, and you know it. I'm applauding..... way down here in Georgia. - Bill

Tears here. You are far stronger than you realize...trust me.

Women of strength somehow feel like that power is never enough. You have it--all you can be right now. I met you a few minutes and knew strength was your virtue, no matter what.
