Orchard Dream

A dream of a much loved childhood place.

Poem Artwork

Go to your homeplace.
No one lives there now
walk a wilding lawn
Down to the orchard.

Remember!
Here you witnessed
sunrises, sunsets
thunder, snow
and spring,
with a heart
that had just learned
how it felt
to say good-bye.

Beneath bent trees
they greet you—
apples and hillsides--
Sweet birdsong
dizzy spiral...

Juliet, this is exquisite, and the use of Remember! is inspired, so direct and commanding, setting the tone for you and the reader, demanding responses from both. I love this poem.

I can relate to this poem for I have visited my child hood place and it was a "dizzy spiral"...great read Juliet
