by Teresa M Walker — Read all 50 poems by Teresa M Walker

My Dad back in the old days making a pot of stew and we never knew what was in it!

Poem Artwork

Dad’s Pot a Stew

“Ere anybody around here know how to ride dis' horse",

Cause my hind end’s a hollerin’ Dixie,

can’t seem to get er’ to da porch.

These feeble arms and legs of mine have seen better days,

And when I’m lookin’ yonder,

it seems to make these old eyes glaze.

Around the bend is home ya see,

with my old buddy Hugh,

Please don’t tell these dog gone rabbits here,

we’re gonna makem’ a pot a stew.

Getta long doggies, getta long!

I love sweet rabbit stew and most of all.. The dumplings that if I'm very lucky, float on the top.

A great storyline with a wonderful vernacular. Romancing the old West. Rabbits was real food back then.

Never had rabbit stew, can't even bring
myself to think about it lol...

But a lovely writing of that old cowboy
working hard with cattle and such :)

Poor rabbit lol

Haha! Rabbit stew . . . Sounds great . . . You're right, don't let 'em find out . . . They'll attack and chew you down like a tender carrot . . . Won't be nothing left but pairs of surprised eyes . . .
