Santa's Wishes

by Teresa M Walker — Read all 50 poems by Teresa M Walker

Remembering as a child, my visions about the Jolly Man named Santa

Thursday, December 6, 2012

Poem Artwork

Resting in my chair looking at the Christmas tree,

Held my breath and watched as the lights blinked back at me.

The beauty of the scene and the wonder of it all,

Made me think back on the years, when I wasn't very tall.

I waited on the stairs in the middle of the night,

With hope that Santa Clause wouldn't find me in the light.

Couldn't hear the pidder padder, as he brought his sleigh to rest,

Upon our roof that night as he brought his very best.

The visions of the stories about this jolly man,

Filled hopes and dreams of wants, to a childlike candy land.

I waited anxiously for a brief good look at him,

But all I saw was mommy and my daddy in the den.

The next thing I remember was the jingle of some bells,

And knew that presents brought were made by Santa's elves.

So I went on back to bed, to wait for Christmas Day,

In hope to find my answers to a list that I had made.

Toys were all I wanted, candy, the perfect treat,

The wonder of it all, never, never, could be beat.

The twinkle of a light brought me back to where I am,

And I knew that Santa's wishes are in the heart of every man.

That is why I don't get insulted when people keep telling me that I never "grew up." Thank you for sharing the magic of the special time, Teresa. Love and best wishes,

This is so beautiful, Teresa, it actually brought back some fond remembrances, of which I had few growing up. Still, your words touched me where it hasn't been touched in a long time. Thank you. I loved the feeling. Waiting for Santa. Wide-eyed and innocent. The purist of feelings.
