Last Night.. I said, Good Bye

by D. Enise — Read all 64 poems by D. Enise

Last night, I said "good bye".

It wasn't what I wanted,
It seemed our time was through.
His promise, he'd forgotten.
So difficult to do.

I thought it best for both or us,
our hearts and souls, were hurting.
He would now be free of guilt,
And I,.. Could go on living.

We are so very different,
My head is in the clouds,
He lives by clock and calendar.
I have no concept of time.

He hides within his duties.
And I run out to embrace.
He looks outside, with yearning.
I sing, and smile and dance.

He asked if I could teach him, once,
To "Feel Life", in that way.
I had told him that, "Yes I would".
No easy road to take.

He never could get to it,
Though he did seem so sincere
He put off all the lessons,
To escape how they may feel.

I thought he had the courage
To step outside his cover
To take a look inside himself,
And let his feelings surface

I know that I will miss him,
A kind and honest man
I hope one day, he's brave enough
To ignore his written plans

Allow for all the gifts in life
To be seen and then accepted
To one day open up his heart
And "feel" with free abandon.

The final choice, is his alone.
He knows just where I'm at.
If ever, he should find his heart,
And journey his way back

~*~

Last night, I said "good bye".

It wasn't what we wanted.
Our time for now was through
Somday he'll find his courage,
And live his life then too.

While Good bye's, are most always hard
Sometimes they are needed.

They do not always mean a door is forever closed.
Sometimes we find ourselves at a place,
that we need some time alone.

It is not easy to look at life from the "outside",
And Just "watch" with Desire..
As a "Spectator"
It takes a lot of energy, to ward off feelings
in order to "stay", on the "outside".
It takes a lot of self "talk, a lot of.. "Denial"
A Safe Place to be.. Or is it ??
One day,.. It could all "catch up"..

And it's not easy to "Live".
Living, takes Risking.
And sometimes Risking takes time.

Just don't let it take to "much" time.
You never know what is passing you by.

Don't live your life by a book you write,
Filled with tasks, and plans.
While it can keep you, from feeling pain..
It will also keep you from feeling
"Love"..and Joy

Living Life, ..
is worth the Risk.

This is beautifully expressed.
Goodbyes can be such painful things, as sometimes hellos can be as well. Facing the living of life can be a frightening proposition, for to live it fully you must relinquish all control.

Oh God ... your poetry and music always make me cry. What a terrific package you present to us here at AuthorsDen. Everyone has to feel the emotional rampage in their hearts when they read your poems and listen to your songs. I am bawling like a baby. Oh God what an emotional release for all the pain and sadness I feel within my heart.
CAN YOU TELL ME HOW I CAN PUT MY SONGS THAT I HAVE WRITTEN HERE THE SAME WAY YOU DO.
Bill............????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Hugs for you and your gentle heart always!!!!!!!!!!

Great poem, Jen. Here is a great quote by Willa Cather (1875-1947):

"Religion and art spring from the same root and are close kin. Economics and art are strangers."

Punctuality and responsibility are important in the business world. Art calls for spontaneity and imagination. I once went to get a haircut and ended up running into my friend Heather. The next thing I know I was in a lake with her and a couple of other friends. Never got my haircut that day. :) Some people plan too much and never really live life.
