Poem Artwork

I lingered over lunch feeling dreamy
I hardly eat in my kitchen anymore
when alone I eat at the computer
with a deep sigh I tried to recall
where my thoughts had taken me
before something interrupted them
looking out of  a dark cave like opening
at a field of wildflowers where
a large black dog was furiously digging
I watched in fascination, he's so fast

The scene changes and the dog is
sitting next to me at the kitchen table
he has the book he dug up, in his mouth
patiently waiting for me to take it
I hesitate then open it to see
a mirror image of myself, and as I flip
the pages  one by one a likeness of me
each one so distorted and ugly I begin to cry

Everything is surreal,I hear myself sobbing
I can't stop it,the pages keep turning
finally they stop and the image is one of beauty
my hungry eyes can't get enough of staring
it's me in my first blush of youth full of light
my being floods with happiness at the sight
I wonder if this is the way the end is going to be
As I ponder  I wish from earth to be set free

"A dream of images" express the duplicity of living and the movment of being alive ... profoundly inspired, vivid images in this psychological poem ..

So much ugliness comes into our lives as we exit from the innocence of our youth. I suppose we bring a lot of it upon ourselves through the chances we take in the name of adventure. As time goes on, we do our best to bury all the ugly things we have done and leave it behind us. We try to push ourselves into the light in the hope that the darkness, that we have caused and allowed to shadow our life, will simply disappear and we will, once again, find that beautiful spirit, wrapped in light and full of beauty and innocence. We must focus upon the big picture and not upon the tiny details. Did we live an honest life for the most part, did we finally learn that our antics caused pain to others and make the necessary changes? Did we mend our ways and repent? Still, the agony of what we have done, rips at our gut and we wonder if we will ever be able to forgive ourselves enough to feel that we have earned our place in heaven. A very colorful picture you have painted, Eileen. Very nice perspective and solid images.
Take care,
Sherry

I think we all ponder that 'end' question from time to time, Tiger Lily, but I hope you're not in that much of a hurry to find out.

PS Lots of large black dogs running around these days, too; now, I wonder what that means.

The combinations of both One Lights seem to have nailed this with the notion of the twin mirror images, light and dark, the happy/sad canvas of the white-faced clown. Confronting the Black Dog within in order to get him off our shoulder is perhaps the strongest move we can make but also the most painful. But, how often are things less bleak once we have examined the truth than how we feared it might be to start with. Perhaps we start out with the fresh bloom of innocence and purity, but, a journey well and honestly travelled in all its fullness is BOUND to pick up bits of garbage along the way. It's how we deal with it that matters and, if honestly dealt with, we can end up surely being whiter that the shade of white we started out with, by virtue of having prevailed against the tarnish? Just pontifficatin as ever, but I like this mirror write that is honest and deep-seated - and if I saw a picture of me in the youthful haze of hopefulness, I think it would give me cause to get up and get going... rather than to relent... well, that's the theory, but much depends on time and place, I guess. Kind of a psalmist's write, with which I can identify. In the knowledge that we go "from glory to glory", I endorse the view that things can only get better and that we end up at least as good as where we started! :)) Guess it all comes out in the wash... Methinks your time has not yet come, O Wise One. You will stay to enjoy a better day! TY for this thoughtful write. Like you, I see everything in pictures. LOL Kate xx

The vivid and sometimes terrifying dream of the "black dog"... that always becomes a redeemed vision of our innermost thoughts and feelings. We face the dog with no fear... and it (we) becomes a loving friend, maybe our best. Then, we wake up renewed, to images surrounding us with Light... the beautiful Light of Love in Expansion. I have faith that you will wake up to these marvelous images in your next dream, with your loving friend right by you, dear Eileen.
Many, many blessings of Love&Light*

Sometimes the mirror shows us dark images of ourselves and sometimes it shows us the light within. Blessed are those who can view, with honesty, both sides.

Beautiful abstract art and don't wish too hard as our end will come quick enough. Good people like you are hard to replace. The way some people are trying to spin this world, one can get discouraged but take heart and continue to give us your messages of hope. Love and hugs
George
