Alone in my surreal serenity
I contemplate surrender

Having learned that balance
Is the true meaning of peace

Without it we go overboard
We are either drowning or swimming

Since drowning is not an alternative for me
I've learned how to float

The beauty of nature surrounds me
I maintain my persona as I become one with it

I do not surrender to it
It is my environment but I am separate

My surrender and peace come in knowing
The difference between us

I ponder life's relationships and their meaning
I find that becoming entangled is a mistake

It is the primary problem of all relationships
For we are individuals who need ourselves

We cannot own another or make one "Ours"
Nor should we allow others to make us "Theirs"

The misconception of marriage vows
Have perhaps ruined most marriages
To become one does not mean to own each other

Most of us are continually seeking something
We can't seem to put into words

I think it is love we seek, but with  freedom
Freedom to be who we are and be accepted

Not to be changed to suit someone elses notion
Love should be secure enough to stand on its own

Otherwise it is not love, it is something else
And I believe most of us only know something else

Let the light shine on truth and surrender to it
Begin to find your balance and maintain it

That is where true love is found
For me it must also,be blessed by Creator

great perspective Eileen. Marriage is love and understanding between two people. If we love and understand we'll give freedom. One who can feel free will follow wilfully, there no need for a cage. lbtu

don't know love. This defines true love Eileen!

So true. I one heard, the man who has an hours silence and an hours laughter a day is never sick..
Plumb regards love too...

you are always a truth-sayer and also a seeker and I feel so blessed to be able to read your work, Eileen. your discussion of marriage and relationships here brings tears to my eyes - I think that balance is something I was never, for various reasons, able to attain in partnership. Surrender's been a lot on my mind of late, and I hope I can find the state of floating that you describe. Wonderful poem! Dawn

You have written a lot lately concerning the mysteries of life and love and forgivness. You are searching, though poetry, for a balance which you can live with. I think you probably already are there, or very close.

Eileen, this is so, so beautiful. It makes me want to cry. There is total truth in your words. The marriage I am blessed with now has no ownership issues. We want to be with each other and we appreciate each other's differences, gifts and talents. Thank you for this, Eileen xxxxoooo Janet

I am finding that surrendering to the knowledge of self is first and foremost the thing that has been lacking in the 48 years of my journey so far... and that has been wrong: a denial of who I am created to be and a discovery I have been in denial of. So, on that basis, all relationships have perhaps been a little wrong-footed and imbalanced. You speak wisdom with such grace and understanding here. A very liberating write for all who read and "do personal business" with the rationales you put across. "Floating" is a very good term for this kind of self awareness and need for personal sovereignty. Bless you, Kate xx
