tick tock

the tides listen
as the moon glistens

on a windswept wave
time crept ashore

it entered the grains
of sand

like the minute hand
on a clock

tick tock

and hermit crabs
scattered

sea gulls
chattered

the surf laughed
like thunder

as it crashed rocks
flinging things asunder

time has its say
every day
in every way

in heavenly warehouses
of snow and rain
time decides on the refrain

time controls the force
within  thermal winds
it tells varied strengths
when to begin

in celestial places
time leaves its traces
as it races the stars

tick tock i hear a clock
it's in the tomb
of heavens  womb

Time passages, there is no way to prevent them from moving forward and no way to find them again once they have gone. No matter how hard we dig our feet in; we cannot stop time for even a moment. For all our strengths "time and tide wait for no man." As we slide headlong into a new year this poem is most appropriate and seems to strike a familiar cord. Each year seems to pass faster than the last and we become aware that indeed our days are numbered. Will we shrink in fear and worry about the time we have remaining or will we seize the day and live like there is no tomorrow? I suppose it depends on the individual, but as for me, I am going to grab onto every moment I am granted and ride it like the wind. I love this poem, Eileen!!!
Take care,
Sherry

in the tomb of heaven's womb

awesome language and imagery. your title fits well, too, particularly with my own weird frame of mind last few days and my own thinking about the odd influence of time on our lives and our tendency to give ourselves over to it or to live outside it / struggle against it. fine write. Dawn

Funny, just watchin Lara Croft and Tomb Raider at the moment! Phantasmagorical images and concepts here, Eileen, giving concrete form to that most elusive of elements. We inhabit it and yet have no idea whence it comes or goes or what quantifies it. I mainly think that the excess of it or lack of it is in one's own head. All we can say for sure is that tempus fugit... or swims, as in this case! :)) The clock in the tomb of heaven's womb is a marvellous circular expression, in line with Sage's Ouroboros... creepy visual, too! Perhaps the spirit of prophecy IS the confluence of prediction and premonition... understanding and intuition. Top drawer write, this... timely, too! May you be blessed with all wisdom and grace in 2006. LOL Kate xx

WOW. Breathtaking and prophetic, your words resonate in the ears. If we don't listen to God's messengers, God help us. Excellent!

The passage of time is surely unscrutable and relentless
Time brings all things to an end !
I love how you have beautifully woven the elements of creation and nature to construct this lovely and memorable piece.
The picture is very timely and subjective
This is a keeper Eileen !

Eileen,
One only has to listen for the tick-tock to know it's there. Yes our days are numbered and timed, this being only a temporary place of stay.
Excellently written. I truly enjoyed this one thoroughly.

A fusion of Nostradamus and psychic Sylvia Brown. Prediction and premonition introduces themselves to one another here, Eileen. An appropriate verse for the time we have left in 2005. The clock is ticking the countdown. In the year 2525. Don't you just love that old Zager & Evans song?

Wow! This poem seems prophetic. Scary and exiting at the same time. Well done, Eileen. The form you used has a rolling down motion that aids the interpretation of something coming upon us. Good work.
