Poem Artwork

I awoke to a dark and dreary deluge of rain
I was in a boat rowing on the river of regret
Tears were streaming down my face
I was surrounded by the  smell of fear
Body racked with pain each stroke of the oars
A force stronger than mine kept me going

The worst of it was my mind  a jumbled mess
Full of condemning thoughts I couldn't control
Flashbacks of past wrongs and bad choices
Hurts I had caused others besides myself
Scenes I had long forgotten and moved on until
I screamed ENOUGH! the river became an ocean

A huge wave pushed me onto the river of reason
The rain stopped I was shedding no more tears
Air clear, all was serene, I heard birds singing
I was dry, rowed with renewed vigor no pain
I was joyful as the sun blazed a path for me
Guiding me towards the river of righteousness

You take us through the troubled seas of self doubt onto the clear waters of self forgiveness. Well done

In our lives when we've had enough...we are reborn. We hit the floor and say "Not one time more." I've been with you sister of mine...so many times. Well thought and written with conviction.

We all make mistakes in our lives, many of which we live to regret. I carry with me a couple of such events that make me feel ashamed of myself and most thankful that they turned out the way that they did instead of the dreadful outcome that could have followed. Still, I have days when I feel weighted down by those selfish and uncaring acts keeping me from ever again doing to another what I did then. Am I sorry?...yes I certainly am. If I had a magic wand would I erase them from my past? No I don't think I would be cause I cannot bear the thought of doing those things to anyone again. Absolutely fantastic write, Eileen.
Take care,
Sherry

Repentance never comes exactly the way we think it will, and when we review these memories and relive them we truly are sorry for our mistakes. It is then the sun arrives as it has in your poem. Fantastic write! Perfect timing too :-)

Rotten thoughts that go round n round n round n round, till one commands stop, stop, stop, time to change to divine thoughts.

Corrie Ten Boom said it well: If you look to the world, you'll be distressed. If you look within, you'll get depressed, If you look to Christ you'll be at rest..

Sounds like you are going through a rough, emotional patch...
I will pray for your inner contentedness and peace...
There ain't no point in looking back...it has all vanished like vapor on a hot summer morning !
