In the lonely night
he waited
hoping the dream
would take shape
restlessness was
creeping in
nothing seemed
to be happening
these were the
worst times

having given up
everything for
the dream
preferring to
 live alone
in his own realm
if he couldn't
conjure up the
vibrant images
manipulate its
circumstance
the fear in him
caused acute
palpatations and
persperations
which gave him
cold sweats

He never had
to be alone
he always had
his vision
the aging process
was cheating him
out of memory
like a thief in
the night
come to steal
his creativity
he cursed the
usurper trying
to take control
of his mind
He swore he'd
never allow it
but then when
 he'd awaken

not knowing
what day it was
or where the
time had gone
and worst of all
trying to recall
what dream he
had been in
but there was
nothing there
when that
happened
the lonliness was
overwhelming
just the thought
that he might have
 to face reality
was earth shattering
to him he dreaded
even thinking about it

Then awesome imagery
crowded his mind
he knew he had
once again found
the dream and was
able to control it
his fingers flew
over the page as he
wrote it down in
his journal, so
excited he was
almost frothing
at the mouth
finally he stopped
writing lay down
went to sleep
when he awoke
he reached for his
journal all excited to
read what he had written
the page was empty
then he knew
he cried out with
anguish,no one heard
he was all alone
without a dream

The dreamer could alway write about the void in the night.
Some dreams I'd have rather not had. Like England losing..Oh That weren't a dream..

Excellent write. Very sad but true. It doesn't have to be that way with every elderly person. There is hope.

Sad place to be when you lose your dreams. This is a good form for you and you do it well. It carries the reader and builds tension and has a hook at the end.

"The aging process was cheating him"

It is a sad state of affairs to be without a dream!

Thank God you are not in this classification dear one!

Your creative mind is a force to be reckoned with Eileen!

Not a pleasant thought for an aging old man. I sure hope they find a cure for this mind stealing disease and soon. The care takers need our prayers also.

The abject loneliness is deeper than this write although you gave us the depth to despair of the dreamer who lost his dream. Captivating in every word... your pen is a mastered piece.

He never really had it to begin with............

You are turning out one masterpiece after another, Eileen, like some kind of female Hitchcock!

Wow, love, Rhonda

Masterful writing, Eileen...I can honestly relate to that by easily placing myself in each line.

Eileen

A quite disturbing and unnerving narrative...
This gives you a graphic insight into how Alzheimer sufferers must feel in their early stages..
I wouldn't want that...
It also reminded me of one of my favorite novels " The Notebook " by Nicholas Sparks

God Bless
Peter
