The music that once she played

Will never again be heard

For fingers can no longer define

That which was meant by word

Now wayward digits fidgiting

No more under her control

Thus comes the day of reckoning

Subtle illness has taken its toll

One less reason to practice at night

One less  pleasure as time taunts

One less performance to get right

One more memory that haunts

May her memory be celebrated, of course if memory of her life is cause to celebrate, and not bring dismay.
A touching tribute poem Eileen!

when it comes down to it, what matters is that the spirit endures the effects of the body's emotion and state of being ...

All things must pass but that doesn't mean that we shouldn't mourn them when they are gone. Some things in our lives just don't last as long as we do...such a sad poem, Eileen.
Take care,
Sherry

Your heart is full of all the passions of the world. You carry this regally where ever you go and your time to construct your poetry for the world is important to so many of us here.

This one reaches in and gives the heart a squeeze: hope this isn't reality. You're still in prayer.

Quite sad, Tiger Lily. But I guess time truly taunts us all, and we all have to make those subtle changes as we go along.

Good one! Age does "taketh away" everything, one thing at a time, and perhaps loss of memory may be a blessing. Sad and soft and soulful, Eileen!

The concerto plays on in the concert hall of the mind, Eileen. It's a timeless place to store the sheet music under the pine deacon's bench with the lift-up lid. The ivory keys retire with satisfaction knowing that a great lady once gave tune to heavenly music...
