just a poem...

Poem Artwork

Oh love that fades in shallow shoals
on ripples of despair
Like watching on a screen that scrolls
as matter disappears

Oh time that slows to make the heart
a vessel of distress
When swift passage would help in part
to make it more painless

Where does reason go when soul is sore
from harsh exposure
When you need it most there's no door
for the insecure

I 'm fraught with tears of deep regret
if I have caused some hurt
Yet, in cement some minds were set
that were too introvert

Frail feelings once having abound
harbor no malice here
The strength to understand is found
if minds are taught to care

Oh love that never leaves my thoughts
that takes up all my days
Where  can one find the  fondness sought
to take the ache away

etw~2003

Evelyn, you know I don't read everything you write, but I'm so glad I found this bit of your soul laid out bare and aching. Mesmerizing.

I think this is simply lovely writing, ET - where have I been? I've missed your talent! Your flow and rhyming schemes give this poem such ease - one is able to feel the emotion acutely because there is no tripping over awkward composition (something to which I aspire)!

Sometimes our heart sends a Mayday! Mayday! and nobody hears our cll of distress. All of it is encompassed in each word of the poem.

PS. By the way, I was Chief Engineer of an ULCC oil tanker of 368.000 tons with full load in the south Atlantic sea after rounding Cape Town when from our rear came that storm, I took similar pictures, our deck were more under water than up!

Love that last stanza, and the music. Amazingly, I'm also using it in my poem today.

just a poem? please ... there is a lot of depth and truth in this poem exploring the heaviness of being, while not departing from its sense of continuously moving upward ...
