I lie in innocence while you are painting me
I wonder what you really see, am I pretty
I'm staring at you with mixed emotions
Do my eyes convey my true devotion
I love you ,but you only seem to see artistically
I long to do something to shock your practicallity
I make my eyes shoot enticing thoughts at you
You aren't ever aroused no matter what I do
It makes me wonder if you are truly a man
With breasts exposed to your expert hand
I hoped perhaps you'd show some interest
Instead you shrink closer into your vest
It's said I have the Mona Lisa smile
So far nothing has interfered with your style
Go ahead Titian, paint away, make me famous
I'll outlast you, and men will look at me with lust!
I've read this a few times and always come away from it deeply moved by the layers of painted activity and hidden agendas that fill each line. The frankness of the narrative voice is a perfect complement to the bold gaze of Titian's "The Girl." I read the poem and want to rename the painting "The Woman You Dare Not Know" :-)

One of my new adventures is learning the art gallery business from a curators standpoint. I have met many artists, some famous, some will be. This poem rings so true. But from an artist's standpoint, although they may have feelings for their subject matter, they are in a "zone" when they are painting, just as we writers are. This throws a light on an aspect of art I have not pondered.

Wow is right. Only your talent could carry this off. I felt like I was in the woman's head with her yearning. And then at the end her being in a tiff. That was the icing on the cake. Excellent. Brilliant. Liz
I never painted models for that reason, it's not fair to them, and not fair to myself, and like Georg, to many brushes get broken if the mind slips from art into artful loving ha, or just loving art.
interesting perspective from the model to the artist, i've always wondered how a nude model must feel with all that exposition going on. you've captured a sense of where many women's heads would be and kind of figuratively as well. well penned.
Your power of imagination goes beyond imagination, Eileen. How can you so deeply go into the mind of Mono Lisa and interpret her emotions and thoughts into a living poetry. I think no one in this AD family can have a yardstick to measure your talents. God Bless You Queen.

a truly unique thought coming from the model i must agree. however, no truer words can be spoken within the relationships that transpire still today. i wonder how many people who have been painted and scripted feel those same words. maybe the artist's brush needs a little work. i enjoyed this write as it is very thought provoking.
