There was almost

A standing room only

Crowd,

A far cry from

The intimate gathering

We had originally

Hoped for,

With nearly every member

Of our extended

Families

And two lifetimes

Worth of friends

Filling the church

To watch us marry,

Yet despite the crowd

And the near carnival

Atmosphere

There remained for us

Just you for me

And me for you

As I walked

Down the aisle

On my elder father’s arm.

Despite my age

I insisted

On wearing white

And I carried a bouquet

Of pastel roses,

While you were

Heartbreakingly handsome

In your dove grey finery

As befitted

The morning hour.

We had waited

A long, long time,

Refusing to settle

For just anyone,

Each knowing

In our heart of hearts

That the other

Was out there

Somewhere.

Before God
