“Magic exists. Who can doubt it, when there are rainbows and wildflowers,
the music of the wind and the silence of the stars?
Anyone who has loved has been touched by magic.
It is such a simple and such an extraordinary part of the lives we live.” --Nora Roberts
The night settles in
As I sit before
My vanity mirror,
My tired body clothed
In subtle lamplight
As I smooth softly scented cream
Upon my shoulders.
From the speaker nearby,
The haunting
"Unchained Melody"
Plays,
And I sway slightly,
My eyes closed,
Absorbing the music
As my skin absorbs
The cream.
Then
A masculine voice whispers
Near my ear,
“Don't look. Just feel.”
And you brush
My hands away,
Replacing them
With your own
As you press your warmth
To my back and
Your cheek against mine.
Together we ride
The music,
Our essences united
As they can never be
In our worlds.
“...I've hungered for
Your touch a long
Lonely time...”
The human voice
Becomes yours
And my heart aches
As I repeat the words
Silently,
Yet, still
You hear them
And pull me closer
Even as the song
Draws to its end.
With the last notes
I feel your gentle caress
Upon my cheek,
A tender kiss
Upon my lips,
And I open my eyes
In time to catch
The slightest glimpse
Of your shadow
As it
Fades away.
You awakened an old tradition - dinner on the gulf, the waves splashing under a moonlit sky, a candlelit table, a chilled bottle of Riesling, slow dancing, and Bobby Hatfield hitting all those high notes. Then new management ruined it all by replacing the magic with sweaty elephants stomping around to that freaky "funky" music--and it all fell apart.
Those brothers who weren't brothers but certainly were righteous, even with a soulful pining song like Unchained Melody would bring out the loving thoughts that every lonely person wishes for.
I've often wondered why women fall for men in prison. Perhaps because men in prison have time to talk to them, either by letters or on the other end of a prison phone.
Your poem suggests that it is soothing words from manly men that women crave whether actual touch or simply the thought of that touch making everything all right and beautiful.
