Something in me has died
And it's taken you with it,
You who came to me
When I was but a child
Who remained with me,
A shadowy companion
Who lived within my dreams
Sustaining my hope
So that throughout the pain
And turbulence of my life
It was never wholly lost.
But now you've gone missing
Taking with it my Muse,
The heart of my creativity,
Leaving me filled instead
With dread and fear.
How will I go on without you?
How will I face this life
Without you to bolster
And protect me?
I've never been truly alone
Until now.
There's a vast emptiness
Where you once resided
And it frightens me.
Where did you go?
Why did you leave me
Forsaken?
