Where Winds The Path?
By La Belle Rouge

where winds the old path now?
the turns dizzying and unfamiliar
the days they mock and chide
feet sore and blistered
cut and blooded by rocks
still blocking the road

i hear a song, an ancient duet
muses hidden behind trees
who venture into sunlight
only to inspire sonnets of love
then quickly cover themselves again
in the tents of fallen leaves

the mystic sea is filled
where flows the river of dreams
it’s been ages or so it seems
since holding hands, in other lands
since my lips touched yours
on those exotic shores

where winds the path now?
are you walking beside me
whispering in my ear at last
or from a distance you won’t span?
where winds the familiar path
from your heart to mine?

The heart does not necessarily follow the path of least resistance, nor the trail that is straight and defined. The heart follows the light that rises the palpitations to an unknown infinity because it is known as pure love to do so. This is another example of what a beautiful romantic write via the craft of metaphoric excellence that you have perfected by that same wondrous heart.
