Of Sam Houston
As The Willow
By La Belle Rouge
the land changes, the people change
i must change too, i suppose
only pain is unchanging, constant
and unrelenting in its mission
to crush each leaf of the tree
until it bleeds scarlet confusion
there are too many black days
too many tears to hold back
i bend like a pliable willow in a storm
i bend but refuse to break
when remembering withered boughs
broken from a crimson tree
i stand tall, immovable, only for a season
then must bend to the ground again
yeilding to the wind, my spirit brought low
wondering if i shall ever stand upright
or if, perhaps for convenience sake,
assume this posture permanently
in anticipation of the next storm
unseen, unheard, unfelt as of yet
but soon to fully capture my horizon
like the sudden, bleak chill of autumn
after the warmth of an indian summer’s day
when in its cold wind i must bend again
spirit of the willow lives in me
makes supple and brave my fearful heart
spirit of the lake soothes my senses
like waters, clear and unmoved
spirit of the eagle you have never
let my soul drop to earth on fledgling wings
In stories told...the people live. This has beauty in the way of life

la belle, my first impressions on this poem was this, the way your masterpiece flowed into the reader, this is mystical, mysterious, passionate, spiritual, magical, has an aura about it. love it, you are Soul Whispers~ love and light,
Hey Belle, kind of mystic piece with the little Indian music, great entertaining poetry, but don't pay my little humor on my poem, "Just in time" much attention, i was thinking about our red factor when i did it, sometimes being in the red is good if its hair, seems you're stuck, but I'm thinking about getting rid of my truck, the cops are always following me thinking I'm a speeder
An undiluted, significant poem that gives tribal voice through the sacred hoop. As The Willow evokes and gives serious commitment to periods of fasting and praying...ceremonial, and counting coup upon the tree, perhaps a fork left at the top so that Belle's medicine bundle and quill can be hung there in ceremony of her writing circles...the music calls us here to the spirit world, La Belle...thanks for giving us this opportunity to nurture and sustain the limbs of the human heart...
The willows are the sould of the Lakotas, the brothers from the Nation Sioux, which the wind bends as it passes through like this poem passes through our hearts.

The drug called "The Shari" has been used for vision quests over many years. But, when all the rivers start drying up, the tribe must send a young hunter named Tomás on a much more important trip through the Amazon.
